Creating Academic Success through the Classroom environment
Kathy Ruhl is able to address this concept through her research. She has found that students should feel comfortable and nurtured in their classroom. The teacher should foster a classroom that is a safe place for them to make mistakes and learn from them. And students should know exactly what it should take to be a successful student in his/her classroom. Kathy Ruhl creates 7 easy ways to accomplish this:
1. identify the major instructional and behavioral goals you want to accomplish (long range goals),
2. Highlight the ways students can be successful in your classroom (success principles),
3. Spell out the rules,
4.Distinguish among varying expectations,
5.Work out key procedures or routines,
6.Convey all of this to students through directly teaching them,
7. arranging the physical space and schedule of activities in ways that support behaviors that meet expectations.

Classroom MANAGEMENT
To have a strong classroom atmosphere, you need to have plan, system, and procedures in which your class does things, so that each and every student know what is expected of them during the different parts of the day. Creating a constant and comfortable classroom environment will help, the teacher and the students.
Harry Wong, Rosemary Wong, Karen Rogers,
and Amanda Brooks have written an excellent article on how to achieve this during the first week of school. It is easy to read, and extremely applicable. You can find that article HERE

A POSITIVE Learning Environment
This quick video explains a great way to create a positive learning environment in your classroom, which is imperative to creating success.
When students come into the classroom, the teacher should want it to be inviting. Often times a positive learning environment can be over looked, when dealing with lesson plans, assessments etc. The positive environment can have a huge effect on how your students feel, and the type of work they produce.
For example, you play music softly while students work, and or create a special time and environment for students to rest and read. This is a way to create a classroom environment that is beneficial to students.
